- Dr. Starling served as an orthopaedic arthroscopic and sports medicine fellow under the tutelage of Dr. William T. Youmans from 1999-2000. Dr. Youmans was one of the founding fathers of modern arthroscopy, with extensive experience in knee arthroscopy and ACL reconstruction. He served as the official orthopaedic team physician for the University of Tennessee Volunteers for over 30 years, before turning his duties over to the current UT team physician, Dr. Greg Mathien, whom Dr. Starling also trained under during his fellowship.
- Dr. Starling was a team orthopedic surgeon for Liberty University in Lynchburg , Va from 2000-2002, and was also the orthopaedic team physician for Hampton Sydney College in Farmville, VA during that same time.
- Upon relocating to his hometown of Valdosta in 2002, Dr. Starling joined the Hughston Clinic Valdosta satellite office . He assisted with care of VSU athletes during that time, before starting his independent practice in 2004.
- Dr. Starling was the orthopaedic team physician for the Lowndes High Vikings from 2002-2012. He also served as team physician for the Clinch Co. Panthers for a number of years, and still routinely treats injured athletes from a number of local high schools. He was the exclusive sponsor of the South Ga. United Soccer League, a partner of United Futbol Academy for the 2014-15 seasons.
